Health and Safety Leadership
Safety Leadership is a vital part of effective management and leadership in any organisation. At Eyton Solutions, we support Executive Directors, Senior Managers and Non-Executive Directors in their roles as safety leaders to promote a culture in which safety is at the forefront of decision-making.
Health and safety for directors and senior managers is an area which requires strong leadership, clear direction and a proactive approach.
Health and safety for directors and senior managers is an area which requires strong leadership, clear direction and a proactive approach. We provide the necessary training and support to help ensure that directors and senior managers are equipped with the knowledge and understanding to make decisions in line with their legal duties.
We provide tailored advice and guidance on regulatory compliance requirements, incident investigation, health and safety management systems as well as risk assessments and reviews. We also support organisations with creating an appropriate safety governance structure to ensure ongoing oversight and management of safety-related matters.
Our team of experienced experts carry out leadership and culture assessments to identify gaps in understanding, knowledge or attitudes that may present a risk to the organisation’s safety culture. Our assessments allow organisations to understand their current performance and develop a plan of action for improvement.
Safety Leadership for Executive Directors and Senior Managers
Executive Directors and Senior Managers are pivotal to the success of the organisations' health and safety management system, as visible leaders tasked with conveying the board's governance to the management team and beyond.
All Executive Directors have the same responsibility to occupational safety regardless if they are a Finance Director or an Operational Director.
The role of senior management is critical in setting the organisational tone for workplace health and safety and ensuring that they set out a clear vision which permeates throughout the company.
How we can help
At Eyton Solutions, we recognise this barrier and strive to provide guidance and support in the form of health and safety training, instruction and assessment. We understand that every organisation is unique. We have worked with many public and private sector Executive teams from small organisations without traditional board structures to large multi-site organisations.
Our team provides practical advice and guidance to assist Senior Executives in ensuring their safety management system is working effectively, embedding good safety practices throughout the organisation and creating an environment where health & safety is at the forefront of decision-making.
Working in partnership, we can help you understand your current H&S performance, key risks and develop a personalised road map to success, which we can assist with delivering or giving external assurance.
Our way of working remains consistent, and we follow the plan, do, check, act approach in line with ISO45001 and the HSE’s HSG65.
We focus as much on the safety culture as we do the systems to ensure that safety is embedded at the heart of your organisation. Our team are experienced in delivering workplace training sessions to Executives, Managers and front-line teams on understanding their roles and responsibilities and leading by example. As an IOSH-approved training provider, our current in-person and online course portfolio includes IOSH Managing Sustainably, IOSH Corporate Governance, IOSH Leading Safely and IOSH Corporate Risk.

Safety Leadership for Non-Executive Directors
Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) provide an additional layer of oversight to the organisation, ensuring that safety remains a top priority. Our experienced team is equipped to support NEDs in developing their safety leadership skills and understanding their roles and responsibilities.
Non-executive directors will not have the day-to-day knowledge of the company’s business and will not see all the information available to management, which is why they must have the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to know how to effectively challenge the executive directors and offer independent judgement.
Too often NEDs rely on the information offered by the Exec and Management teams, or on non-expert external audits which are not suitable or sufficient leading to false assurances around the H&S performance of the organisation. In our experience, the majority of these false assurances come to light when it is too late.
How we can help
Eyton Solutions have advised, coached, and developed many Non-Executive Directors in a variety of industries both in the UK and abroad, on how to ensure good corporate governance and how to get the right assurances.
We can help NEDs in many ways, including:
Coaching and mentorship to build strong transformational leaders
Delivering IOSH Corporate Governance and Corporate Risk training sessions
Developing Health and Safety board reporting requirements
Undertaking risk audit profiling
Performing audits to understand current Health and Safety performance
Delivering workshops and policy sessions
Providing NEDs with good practice risk management guidance
Developing health and safety leadership strategies and frameworks
Giving independent assurance and advice
At Eyton Solutions, we are dedicated to helping organisations improve their occupational safety performance, and our team are happy to work with NEDs to ensure safety remains a priority. If you would like any more information on the services we can offer, please get in touch.
